Circus Diner 🎪

We had lunch at Angie’s Circus Diner in Hugo, OK yesterday. Our favorite lunch spots are the ones the locals use. This place had a parking lot full of cars so we found a spot and headed in. Really fun place with circus posters and memorabilia displayed. It captures the circus history of this small town. The wait staff were hustling food and drinks with nice smiles for everyone. We both had a loaded baked potato and shared a plate of wonderful fried green tomatoes. Since the place was pretty full, we shared a table with three other diners. We all got a kick out of finding out we were all from North Carolina and had lived within 30 miles of each other. The lady and her brothers were in OK to move her things back to NC since her husband had passed away recently. She had moved out West with him several years ago. Such a small world!

Love the sign!
Cheerful welcome

“Hugo, also known as Circus City, gained its secondary name in 1937 when local Hugo businessman and circus fan Vernon Pratt went to Mena, Arkansas to talk to the owner of the Al G. Kelly Miller Bros. Circus. Pratt offered to house the circus in Hugo during winter, and Circus City, USA was born. Today, three circuses that call Hugo home: Carson & Barnes, Kelly Miller and Culpepper & Merriweather”
