Lane Frost

After we toured Showmen’s Rest, we walked through Bull Rider’s Reprieve. (Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo OK) This section honors the memory of rodeo riders and performers. One very interesting grave caught our attention mainly due to the young age of the rider and the numerous momentos piled all over the base of the headstone. When we got home, I looked up the name and discovered it was the champion Lane Frost of the movie 8 Seconds. He was killed in July 1989 at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo. I must say that I don’t agree with the use of animals this way and I don’t understand such risk taking.

“Since his death, Frost has been the subject of many memorials. The 1994 movie 8 Seconds was based on his life. Perhaps the most important tribute came from Frost’s longtime friend Cody Lambert, who designed a protective vest that is now required at all PRCA events.”

  1. So interesting- my Uncle ram frontier days in Wyoming for many years.

He was also the only State Farm agent for the whole state.
