Beachcombing

I always thought that beachcombing was about finding pretty shells. Apparently the hobby also includes searching for anything of interest or value on a beach. I’m buying an “entry level” metal detector and long handle sand scoop to find coins and jewelry too. Until then, I am collecting a jar of useful, interesting or unique items. This morning I revisited a spot (100 feet from our RV) where we enjoyed the beach sunset last night. I found a long nosed gar fish skeleton that will stay on the sand, one Teleties hair band for my beginning treasure collection, some garbage that I put in a trash bin and a large freshly opened clam that was a heron’s breakfast. I imagine that I will find more trash than treasure but at least the beaches will be cleaner.

  1. Josh loves to play around with his metal detector, too! He and Lucy have found lots of interesting things. Once they found a guy’s wedding band at the beach…got him out of hot water for sure! 😅 His new bride was not happy! We got a good laugh afterwards 😁
