While out on an evening walk around our campground, we spied a couple unusual RVs. They were lowered right down to ground level which seemed pretty strange. The wheels were off the ground! Curiosity got the best of me, so I asked an owner who was lounging outside ” what IS this? ” I choose the right fellow 😊 A Minnesota native , Jason and his family we pleased to give us a tour. Ice Castles and other rigs like them are used for ice fishing. They are like a regular RV with all the comforts but also have several lidded 12 ” diameter holes in the floor for fishing on the ice. Quite a step up from an ice shack. The interior was all cedar and beautifully designed for its function. Hydraulics are used to lower the frame to sit on the ice. They also use it for weekend year round camping. I didn’t video the inside to respect their privacy so I have included a link below if you want a tour of one. The second link shows one being lowered.
