Zollicoffer Park πŸ’”

Kaitlyn and I had a little history lesson on our way to town. Mill Springs National Battlefield was the site of the first Union victory during the American Civil War. This park is named for Confederate General Zollicoffer who mistook the identity of a Federal Colonel Fry. They actually exchanged remarks before either realized the mistake, which ended in Zollicoffer’s being mortally wounded. See the link for the whole story. As we viewed this solemn site, Kaitlyn asked “which were the good guys and bad guys “? Well Honey, both sides thought they were in the right but both sides lost so many trying to win the war. There’s a better way.

Solemn place
Flowers for the fallen
Above the battlefield
Site of the mass grave of over 100 Confederate soldiers
