Historic Nine Mile Ranger Station & Remount Depot, MT

From 1930 to 1953 this station provided experienced packers and mules for fighting fires and backcountry projects throughout the Northern Rockies. Today the station teaches traditional skills with pack animals to Forest Service employees. Over 200 service animals winter each year at this location. It’s distinct Cape Cod style architecture suits the landscape beautifully. A self guided tour was most interesting and we especially enjoyed visiting with the beautiful mules and horses.
